Which is your least favorite wood to work with?

For me it is definitely pine. I haven’t used it since I first started and built my bench.

A few years ago we remodeled the kitchen in our house and replaced the built in cabinets from the ‘50s. I saved a few of the boards as my wife thought it would be neat if I built something out of them.

I finally got around to making a spice rack and figured I would pay homage to the original craftsman that built the kitchen by adding more joints than needed.

I was quickly reminded of how unforgiving pine can be if you are not careful. Dents dings and breakouts etc.

What is your least favorite wood to work with and why?

Built-in cabinets

This was my first time doing built-ins and I was pleased with the end result. I purchased lower wall cabinets from Home Depot and built the bottom carcasses around them. The majority of the project was done with 1x2 poplar and maple 3/4 inch plywood. Paint and primer were from Sherwin-Williams.

The largest error I made was not thinning out the primer enough and having the HVLP prayer set too high for the first coat. This made for more sanding that I would have liked.

I also struggled with the blue painters tape not coming off in an even line and taking some of the paint with it. Would be curious to hear what tips and tricks people have for removing painters tape so that it leaves a crisp line.

Prior to starting the project, I was torn between purchasing a job site table saw or a track saw. I ended up purchasing a WEN track saw off Amazon and was very satisfied with how well it worked.

Thankful for this Reddit group and the resource that it was during the planning of this project!
